Dentists given a boost by £100m promise.

Health officials released a statement in the British Dental Association conference this year in May pledging to help NHS dental surgeries.  The cash is to be made available to refurbish old and dilapidated premises and modernise equipment.

The money is to be allocated to strategic Health Authorities (SHAs) on the basis of local population share in an attempt to make sure each area receives in accordance to improve it's healthcare.  £40m of the fund is to be made available in 2006/7 and £60m in 2007/8.

The money will be associated with those practices that need to improve its disabled access, installing washer disinfectors and new computers for better patient access to services.  Dentists across the UK are advised continually to invest in a system in which their performance can be dramatically increased giving better service to the patients and be the driving force behind a better community.

Practices with NHS work accounting for 50-90% of their activity might expect to receive a third of the total cost of the proposed investment from the local Primary Care Trust (PCT).  This figure is all dependent on how the local PCT regards a certain practice and the efficiency it shows in dealing with NHS patients meaning that grants are all dependent on the PCT.
